What is Sri Lanka Taxi Charter Service (SLTCS)?

SLTCS is a private car-and-driver charter operated by government-licensed tourist drivers across Sri Lanka. We build flexible day-by-day routes, provide written quotes in advance, and allocate a suitable driver and vehicle for your dates.

What’s included in the price, and what isn’t?

Included (typical): vehicle with professional driver (sedan/van), basic driver expenses while on tour, pick-up & drop-off per itinerary, fuel/tolls/parking [confirm per your policy].
Not included: your accommodation/meals, entrance fees & activity tickets, optional licensed site guides, personal expenses.
Your written quote clearly lists inclusions/exclusions before you decide.

Can I request a specific driver? Is there a selection fee?

Tell us your preferences (language, driving style, a driver you’ve used before). We prioritise them subject to availability. If a special arrangement adds cost, we’ll state it before you confirm.

Will a reliable, on-time driver with good driving skills come?

Yes. We allocate government-licensed drivers with safe, defensive driving and punctual pick-ups. If anything changes, our office will contact you and arrange alternatives.

When is my driver decided?

After your booking is confirmed and before your start date, we share the driver’s name, vehicle details and contact (often via WhatsApp).

What vehicle types do you use?

CategorySeats (recommended)Typical use
Standard Sedan1–3 travellersCouples / small groups with luggage
Standard Van4–6 travellersFamilies / friends
Premium Van6–9 travellersExtra space and comfort

Tell us suitcase sizes so we assign the right vehicle.

Do you have baby/child seats?

Yes, on request. Please include the child’s age/height/weight in your enquiry so we can prepare the correct seat. Availability is limited.

Can we communicate well with the driver?

Yes. Most guests choose English-speaking drivers. If you prefer another language, tell us and we’ll check availability. For deep historical commentary, we can add a licensed guide.

Can the driver also guide us at sightseeing spots?

Drivers help with logistics, tickets and practical tips. For in-depth explanations inside some sites, local rules may require a licensed national/site guide — we can arrange one on request.

Can you book activities (safaris, whale watching, Ayurveda, etc.)?

Yes. We recommend trusted operators and fit activities into your schedule. Unless noted, tickets/fees are paid directly to the operator.

What if we want to go somewhere else on the day?

That flexibility is a key benefit of a charter. Tell your driver and we’ll adapt where possible. Extra driving time/distance may change the plan or price — we’ll confirm before proceeding.

Can I communicate with an English-speaking driver?

Yes — daily English for travel is standard (routes, timings, food, tickets). If you need interpretation for specialised topics, ask us to add a guide.

What about tipping—how much and when?

Tipping is optional and based on satisfaction. If you choose to tip, many guests do so at the end of the charter.
Local guideline: [fill] per day for the driver, and [fill] for porters/site staff. Adjust to service quality and group size.

What happens if there’s an accident or unexpected problem?

Safety first. Contact us (or ask your driver to call). Our office and partners will coordinate assistance and arrange alternatives if needed so your trip can continue smoothly.

What if our plans change at the last minute?

We’ll adjust where possible. Any fees follow the cancellation/change policy stated on your quote; we’ll be transparent before you decide.

Is it hot during travel?

Cars are air-conditioned. Drivers plan rest stops and can adjust the day to avoid peak heat. Bring water and sun protection for outdoor sights.

Do you accept corporate/business use?

Yes. We provide receipts/invoices and can coordinate itineraries for business travellers and site visits. Mention any billing requirements when you enquire.

Can we use the service for only part of the itinerary (e.g., 2–6 days)?

Yes. You can book just the segments you need (transfers with sightseeing, day trips, etc.). Tell us your dates and cities; we’ll propose an efficient route.

Our flight arrives late—can we travel at midnight to places like Sigiriya?

Possible subject to safety and driver hours. We’ll advise the best plan (e.g., overnight near the airport vs. direct transfer) and note any price impact in your quote.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance (medical, baggage, trip interruption/curtailment). Some credit cards include coverage — please check your policy.

Where is the best place to exchange money?

Use bank counters or recognised-bank ATMs; hotels and small kiosks may offer less favourable rates. Your driver can stop at reputable options on request.

Which areas in Sri Lanka are good to visit?

It depends on season and interests:

  • Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy): history & temples
  • Hill Country (Nuwara Eliya, Ella): tea fields, waterfalls, scenic train
  • South/West Coast (Galle and beyond): beaches, fort town
Share your dates and we’ll map a route that minimises back-tracking.

Can you recommend hotels?

We don’t sell rooms, but we’re happy to suggest areas and properties that fit your route and budget (family rooms, pools, views, etc.). Tell us preferences and we’ll include ideas in your quote.
