The peak season for European tourists is from January to March, but many also visit in August during the summer school break.

Moreover, we believe that Sri Lanka is a country well suited for family holidays.
This article will explain why Sri Lanka is set to become a popular family holiday destination and how families can enjoy it safely and efficiently.
Why Sri Lanka is recommended as a family holiday destination
We shall explain why Sri Lanka is a suitable destination for family holidays.
Home to Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Sri Lanka possesses six UNESCO World Heritage Sites of cultural significance and two of natural significance.
Children are also inspired by the richness of Sri Lankan culture through its cultural heritage, and they can enjoy nature experiences through trekking in the Central Highlands and Sinharaja Forest Reserve.

By utilising the taxi charter service mentioned later, you can efficiently tour these World Heritage sites.
The mainstream approach is to focus on cultural heritage sites such as Sigiriya Rock and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

World Natural Heritage sites are generally replaced by wildlife experiences such as safaris and whale watching, which we shall cover next.
See Sri Lankan Leopards and the Elephant Gathering on Safari
Among Sri Lanka’s attractions, one cannot overlook the opportunity to encounter wildlife on safari or go whale watching.
In Sri Lanka, there are the following five representative safaris alone.

You can see Sri Lankan leopards in the most famous Yala National Park. You can also occasionally spot them in Wilpattu.

Also, in other parks such as Minneriya National Park and Kaudulla National Park, you can see the Elephant Gathering—huge herds of elephants coming together!

And to enjoy a safari, you’ll need a jeep—actually, you can’t even enter the park without one.

With our Rankami Platinum Plan, we shall arrange the most suitable jeep for you. Furthermore, for those who arrange a jeep through our company, a driver will accompany you in the vehicle and provide explanations as required.
Additionally, at Minneriya National Park, Kadulla National Park, and Hulu Elephant Park in the Sigiriya region, the locations where elephants congregate vary depending on the circumstances. Lanka Mee arranges the most suitable jeeps at the last minute based on local information, maximising the chances of witnessing the largest elephant gatherings.

Whale watching is one of the highlights
You can experience the dynamic movements of marine life not only on land but also at sea. At Mirissa, a beach in the south-west, it is possible to see blue whales.

Whale watching in Mirissa (southern Sri Lanka) is characterised by the fact that it primarily involves setting out early in the morning from a harbour close to the deep open ocean, targeting blue whales.
The peak season runs from December to March. Visitors to Sri Lanka during this period should definitely consider it!
Lanca Mee can also arrange tours with the highest possible chance of seeing whales.

Car Hire with driver is essential for family trips to Sri Lanka.
When travelling in Sri Lanka, a taxi charter service is essential.
Why you need to charter a taxi in Sri Lanka.
- Public transport is not well developed.
- You can build your own tour
- Public order is not as good as in Japan
Public transport in Sri Lanka is underdeveloped, and the conditions on buses and such are poor compared to Europe.
For instance, even travelling to Sigiriya, the most famous tourist destination, requires a change of transport. Taking children on a long bus journey there proves a gruelling ordeal. Furthermore, after sightseeing, one must find transport again to reach the hotel.

For comfortable and safe travel in Sri Lanka, chartering a taxi is the best choice. In fact, it would be fair to say that chartering a taxi is practically the only option available.
LankaMe provides comprehensive support through English staff.
We arrange drivers who hold official licences issued by the Sri Lankan government. Furthermore, they are selected through a rigorous screening process, and drivers receiving negative feedback have their contracts terminated immediately, thereby enhancing the quality of the drivers we arrange.
It has been widely utilised on numerous family trips.

For young children, we also provide child seats, so please feel free to enquire.
We shall do our utmost to support you in enjoying a wonderful trip to Sri Lanka with your children.

Recommended Model Itinerary for Family Holidays in Sri Lanka
Below, we provide a specific model itinerary for those planning a 5-night, 6-day family trip within Sri Lanka.
This particular trip is for five nights and six days, but we can arrange other options such as four nights and five days or six nights and seven days upon request.

We shall be staying at Heritance Kandalama, travelling from the airport towards Sigiriya.
After ascending Sigiriya Rock, we shall proceed to Kandy. In Kandy, we shall visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
We shall proceed from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. In Nuwara Eliya, we shall partake in tea-picking experiences and savour afternoon tea.
Arrange a chartered taxi transfer to Bandarawela Station, then board the Tea Train for a journey of approximately one hour to Demodara Station. This section offers not only views of tea plantations but also the opportunity to cross the Nine Arch Bridge whilst travelling.

Trains can be booked via 12Go.Asia, but even if you are unable to secure a reservation, you may still board on the day with a standing ticket. The journey takes about an hour and the scenery is lovely, so I think you’ll find it thoroughly enjoyable.
After enjoying a jeep safari from early morning in Yala, we head towards the beach resort of Mirissa.
After enjoying whale watching from early morning, we shall proceed to the airport (if time permits, we shall include a visit to Galle).
We are happy to assist with itinerary planning free of charge, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
