During this trip, he responded immediately when we suddenly changed our plans, which was a great help.

What impressed us most was our driver’s wealth of local knowledge. The information and advice he provided—things we could never have found simply by researching online or with AI, and guidance tailored to the situation on the ground at the time—made the trip even more satisfying.

Whenever something was beyond what the driver could handle alone—for example, when we suddenly asked for a restaurant reservation—he promptly contacted the company, and the local staff arranged it for us. It was reassuring to feel that the entire company, not only the driver, was supporting our trip.

Our driver, Aruna, was extremely flexible and made the trip very enjoyable even with a child.

He had a wealth of knowledge and gave us clear explanations at each sightseeing destination, allowing us to learn a great deal about Sri Lankan culture.

On the long drives, he also played our child’s favourite music so they would not get bored, making the trip enjoyable for the whole family.

When we suddenly wanted to reschedule an Ayurveda experience during the trip, he found a suitable facility that could fit into our itinerary and handled the change flexibly. He also helped us arrange tickets for the Perahera festival on the day itself. Ranjana had advised us in advance that it would be better not to book beforehand, so we were anxious because we had not secured seats until that day, but in the end we were apparently able to get excellent seats for less than the standard price.

Beyond those individual occasions, throughout the trip he maintained just the right balance—attentive without hovering—and stepped in whenever we needed help, so we could enjoy Sri Lanka without stress.

In addition to driving, he climbed Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Rock with me and explained many things along the way.

His stories about history were fascinating. I had been worried before climbing Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Rock, but they were not as difficult as I had expected.

Most visitors probably go to Sigiriya Rock, but the route to the summit of Pidurangala Rock feels like a pleasant forest walk. There is also now an alternative route around the rock-climbing section that used to be considered the final challenge, so it can be climbed without too much strain. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested.

He also suggested activities that were not in my original itinerary, and I enjoyed a river safari as well. On another matter, the rubber came off several wheels on my suitcase. When I asked whether it could be repaired somewhere, he took the suitcase to several shops and made enquiries for me.

Although it had nothing to do with his work as a driver, he went out of his way to help me, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, it could not ultimately be repaired. There are still many places I could not visit on this trip, so I hope to return another time.

On this trip, we were fortunate to spend five days with a wonderful driver named Lanka, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰.

About our guide, Lanka:

1. He looked after us with exceptional attention to detail, allowing us to travel comfortably for five days. He explained what we saw from the car and guided us to the right places, at the right times, along well-chosen routes. It made for a truly wonderful trip.

2. His Japanese was excellent, and he was also a dedicated learner. He wrote down words and expressions we used, and his commitment to becoming an even better guide was impressive.

3. His driving was precise and he followed traffic rules carefully. He was considerate toward pedestrians crossing the road, yet our journeys remained efficient with no wasted time.

4. The only unpleasant incident occurred after we said goodbye to Lanka. At the airport, we did not really understand the role of the porters. Someone helped with our luggage, so we tipped him as we might at a hotel—200 rupees per suitcase, for three suitcases in total. He said it was not enough, and we eventually paid 1,000 rupees. Everything was resolved, but it left us feeling a little uncomfortable. Not only in this situation but elsewhere too, we were unsure how much to tip. It would be helpful to receive guidance in advance about appropriate amounts.

Airport porters and baggage-handling services are not arranged or operated by our company or the assigned driver. Services inside the airport after you have said goodbye to Lanka are therefore outside our control.

At the same time, your feedback has reminded us how difficult it can be for first-time visitors to Sri Lanka to know how much to tip.

At places such as airports, someone may offer to carry your luggage even if you did not request assistance. It is perfectly acceptable to decline if you do not need the service. We also believe that knowing the usual tipping ranges for different situations in advance helps guests travel with greater peace of mind.

We will improve our pre-departure guidance by providing clearer information about customary tipping at hotels, restaurants and airports, as well as for drivers.

We have just said goodbye to Dhammika.

We have travelled to 20 countries, but we have never had a guide as courteous and friendly as he was.

Although the two days involved long journeys, he looked after us thoughtfully throughout, and we were able to experience elephants and Ayurveda for the first time.

When we booked, we thought this might be our only visit. Yet the service was so wonderful from the moment we made the reservation that we now want to return to Sri Lanka with our children and ride the tea train next time. Thank you 😍

When we booked your private taxi, our main goal was to secure smooth transportation so that we could see as much as possible in a short period.

As we had hoped, all our transfers went very smoothly. Our driver, Mahesh, coordinated with the sightseeing sites, restaurants and hotels in advance, allowing us to travel very comfortably despite our tight schedule.

To be honest, during the first day or two, we were slightly distrustful of some of the driver’s suggestions regarding our plans.

We wondered whether he might be steering us toward businesses with which he had connections. However, as we spent more time together, we came to understand that he was a very trustworthy driver.

He was not especially talkative, but he was sincere and courteous. We felt completely comfortable entrusting the itinerary to him.

Looking back, the mistrust we initially felt was probably an unconscious defensiveness shaped by our own previous experiences of living and travelling abroad.

It was reassuring that we could discuss everything in Japanese right up until our departure. Our driver, Chamil, also responded flexibly whenever we changed our plans.

Above all, his help with our delayed baggage from the outbound flight was invaluable. At first, we contacted the airline ourselves in English, but the luggage did not arrive as scheduled and we were at a complete loss. Chamil was genuinely concerned for us and communicated with the airline and delivery company in the local language.

Even though it must have been extra work for him, he readily offered to help.

Our child also became very fond of him, and thanks to Chamil we had a wonderful trip. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is the reason we fell in love with Sri Lanka!

We knew nothing about local safety, transportation or the geography, so it was extremely helpful to discuss the travel schedule and plan it together. Although this made the trip more expensive, it allowed us to travel with complete peace of mind.

Our driver was very entertaining and knowledgeable. He answered our questions thoroughly and used our free time to take us to local places and other destinations that matched our interests, which we greatly enjoyed.

We also appreciated his suggestions for experiences we would never have tried on our own, such as visiting a local market and buying a lottery ticket.

We felt anxious because comparatively few people travel from Japan to Sri Lanka.

It was a tremendous help to discuss our itinerary during the planning process and turn it into a realistic schedule.

Our guide, Nish, was extremely friendly and devoted in his support. By the end, it felt as though he had become not merely our guide but a friend in Sri Lanka.

We have travelled abroad many times, but including its indescribable sense of adventure, this was the most enjoyable trip we have ever taken!

Our driver, Chanaka, was the kindest person we have ever met. He knew the roads very well, and his explanations were easy to understand.

We were worried because there were many mountain roads and we are prone to motion sickness, but he was an excellent driver. Even when we had booked a hotel on a very narrow road, he simply smiled and said, “It’s OK!”

Advance reservations for the tea train had sold out, and we only had tickets for a 20-minute journey covering two stations. Chanaka suggested that we buy same-day tickets and helped us do so, allowing us to enjoy a much longer ride on the tea train.

We are so glad Chanaka was our driver! He made us fall in love with Sri Lanka!

Travelling with a child, we were concerned about the long transfer times from the airport to Sigiriya and then to Unawatuna. However, he suggested enjoyable activities along the way and created a full-day plan for Sigiriya, leaving us completely satisfied.

While spending the day in Sigiriya, I realised that I had lost my mobile phone. He immediately contacted the tour company we had just used, retraced our route and searched with us. Even though we had a reservation time for our next activity, he worked tirelessly without showing the slightest frustration. Thanks to him, we found the phone safely!

He made full use of our time and ensured that everything went smoothly. We cannot thank him enough.

His driving was excellent, and we always felt safe in the car. We had not made a detailed schedule, but he responded flexibly and made the trip very comfortable.

Because the journey from the airport to the World Heritage sites is so long, we considered booking a taxi. However, we did not know who the driver would be and felt uneasy about asking a stranger to drive for hours late at night, so we agonised over the decision.

While researching, we found the excellent reviews for LankaMe. Knowing that Japanese support was available gave us confidence, so we decided to book.

To be honest, I initially thought the price was high. After having him drive us throughout the trip, however, I no longer felt it was expensive. Randika was calm and endearing, and even after spending many hours together, we never felt the need to be overly considerate around him. We felt completely at ease.

They accommodated our last-minute enquiry, and we were very satisfied. The driver seemed accustomed to assisting Japanese guests and even made helpful suggestions.

Thanks to our driver, Nalinda, we had a very fulfilling trip.

In addition to our original plans, he suggested activities, took us to delicious local restaurants and filled our journey with experiences we could never have discovered from information available in Japan alone.

He explained the history, culture and current circumstances of places such as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in detailed Japanese, giving us a much deeper understanding of Sri Lanka.

As this was a women’s trip, having a trustworthy driver with us allowed us to enjoy the journey safely and without encountering any problems.

In a car-dependent country such as Sri Lanka, where attractions are spread across many regions, we felt that a service like this was indispensable. Thank you again for the wonderful five days.

Our driver was very kind. He considered the operating status of the tea train, suggested flexible changes to our route and even stopped at attractions that were not in our original plans. We were extremely satisfied.

When we ran short of cash, we were also grateful that he lent us some money.

On our first trip to Sri Lanka, despite knowing so little, the completely personalised and rather ambitious itinerary packed with everything we wanted to do actually became a reality! Haha.

We had been very concerned about how well the driver who would be with us throughout the journey could communicate in Japanese. However, he had previously lived in Japan, was extremely kind to our children and responded flexibly to changes in our plans during the trip.

Thanks to our driver, we were able to relax and enjoy the journey with complete confidence.

Whenever we told our driver what we wanted to do or where we hoped to go, he responded immediately and worked out how to make it happen. We were extremely grateful.

Even during long journeys and hours of driving, he never showed any sign of tiredness and always remained cheerful, creating a bright and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the trip.

He even prepared a surprise souvenir for us, which showed his wonderful hospitality.

He took us to a trustworthy gem shop.

It was our first time visiting a gem shop, and I became overwhelmed by all the dazzling stones and got rather carried away. Seeing this, Ranjana advised me, “Take your time and negotiate at your own pace.” His words brought me back to my senses.

In the end, we were able to make a purchase we felt completely satisfied with.

When we requested a particular food, he stopped at a roadside stall in the area where it was produced so that we could try it.

He also took us to comparatively clean restrooms, which gave us peace of mind.

He thoughtfully arranged rest breaks and looked after us, allowing us to travel comfortably.

Being able to discuss each step with our driver in Japanese gave us tremendous peace of mind.

Above all, having a Japanese-speaking driver made us feel secure. He also knew excellent restaurants along the route, so we enjoyed some delicious meals.

I was not particularly concerned about planning the route because it was largely an updated version of the journey I had taken by train and bus 15 years earlier.

This time, I was able to speak with Seresh in Japanese. I could ask about questions that had stayed with me since my previous trip and learn how the country had changed over the past 15 years, which deepened my understanding considerably.

His guidance was certainly helpful, but above all, the conversations and information he shared while we were travelling were extremely valuable.

The driver was flexible and hospitable, while maintaining just the right distance without becoming overly familiar.

It was easy to communicate with him in English, and we encountered no communication problems.

Even when we changed our plans along the way, he responded flexibly and offered helpful suggestions.

LankaMe explained the pre-departure information, pricing and reservation process clearly and understandably.

The support was excellent. We shared all our requests, and they carefully checked the time and travel distances before giving us a clear answer about what was realistically possible. That was extremely reassuring. Above all, their consistently fast replies were what gave us the confidence and trust to make our decision.

The local team also respected our family’s wishes and assigned us an excellent driver. Whenever we made a request or asked for advice, he responded immediately. Despite having so much knowledge, he did not constantly push recommendations on us. As Japanese travellers who sometimes find it difficult to decline suggestions, we greatly appreciated that. We were also delighted by how safely he drove—far more carefully than we had imagined.

Every day’s guiding and driving exceeded our expectations, so it is impossible to choose only one highlight. Our family wanted to visit and climb many places, and at times we enjoyed ourselves so thoroughly that we worried whether we would stay on schedule. In the end, he always made sure we arrived on time.

We also spent one full day relaxing at our hotel without seeing him. We appreciated that he respected our hotel time and did not try to suggest outings. When travelling abroad, we often meet energetic people eager to provide service. Their enthusiasm can be welcome, but declining repeated offers can also be stressful, and sometimes we accept things reluctantly and feel uncomfortable afterward. With Isuru, we experienced none of that stress. His style of attentively respecting our preferences suited us perfectly.

At the same time, Isuru was exceptionally dependable whenever his help was needed. One moment that made us especially happy involved the tea train. A section of the route had been closed after a hurricane, but on the day of our journey Isuru told us that service had resumed. He negotiated with the station staff so that we could remain on the train beyond the destination on our advance tickets. Thanks to him, our tea-train experience was even better than we had expected!

Isuru was always calm, reserved and quiet, and did not seem naturally inclined to overreact. Yet at every important moment he was a thoroughly dependable presence, for which we are truly grateful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our nine-day, seven-night trip. Best of all, every day someone in the family would say, “I’m so glad we came—thank you for planning this trip!” We hope to return one day and visit the areas we could not reach this time.

We had booked a relatively long eight-day stay because we thought one visit would be enough and we would probably never return. The result was exactly the opposite: the stay felt far too short, and next time we want to come for much, much longer.

It was clear that he genuinely loved this work and approached it with great integrity. Thanks to him, we felt safe and enjoyed every day. We relied on him so much that we sometimes wondered whether we were asking too much. He seemed to take real pleasure in his work, which made the experience enjoyable for us as well, and he maintained exactly the comfortable degree of personal distance that Japanese guests particularly appreciate. We were also astonished that he presented us with a beautifully clean and tidy car every single day.

In fact, he did so much that we sometimes felt he did not need to go quite that far, because it would be no good if he exhausted himself.

It was reassuring to have water ready at hand every day. He understood how sincerely we wanted to enjoy the activities, added more wherever possible and suggested the most affordable plans he could. We were delighted that the time and money he saved us also allowed us to add new activities.

On the flight home, we were convinced that of everyone on the plane, we must have enjoyed the fullest and most rewarding trip. That was entirely thanks to him.

He was also exceptionally kind to local people. Perhaps because of this, whenever we were with him, we felt that others treated us with great consideration too.

He did everything possible within the time available. While we were enjoying ourselves, he checked, adjusted and booked our next plans—all of it.

I felt as though I were the daughter of a millionaire. Beyond the trip itself, I learned so much from watching the way he worked.

His explanations were easy to understand, and his kindness made me feel at ease.

This may partly reflect road conditions in Sri Lanka, but his driving style involved repeatedly pressing and releasing the accelerator rather than maintaining steady pressure, which made me feel carsick. When I mentioned it, he made an effort to improve.

He did his best to accommodate our requests and did even more than we had hoped, which made me very happy.

I understand that Sri Lanka differs from Japan, but he received and answered several phone calls while driving. Because the road conditions were difficult, this felt a little frightening. Although he used hands-free calling, I worried about the possibility of an accident.

We were extremely satisfied. Even allowing for his experience serving Japanese guests, his personality shone through in every aspect of the service. We are truly glad we chose him.

We mistakenly called him by the wrong name for part of the trip, and he never corrected us. We are sorry! He was full of hospitality and genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay as much as possible. For example, when we said we wanted to eat mangoes, he contacted several fruit shops for us. Offering lotus flowers together at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree was also a wonderful memory.

If we visit Sri Lanka again, we would be delighted to ask for him once more.

For this 11-day trip to Sri Lanka with my 78-year-old mother, we requested Ranjana as our guide and driver. To begin with the conclusion, thanks to Ranjana it turned into the best trip to Sri Lanka we could have imagined. Ranjana had studied in Japan and spoke flawless Japanese, and in addition, he had undergone training to become a guide in Sri Lanka, so he possessed extensive knowledge about the country as a whole.
On top of that, his personality and thoughtfulness were tremendously reassuring for us. For my mother, he made frequent restroom stops, searched desperately for the shops we wanted to visit, and when we toured historical sites, he even took my mother’s hand and helped her up the stairs together with me. His attentive care was so wonderful that I could hardly describe it all here.
I have taken my mother abroad to more than 15 countries and hired private guides, but among them, Ranjana was the best guide we have ever had.

I was hesitant to apply before I went because it wasn’t a cheap expense, but in the end I feel really glad that I used LankaMe this time. First of all, I was put in charge of the operator, Mr. Sato, and he was always very prompt and courteous in making suggestions and providing guidance, and he was a very dependable person that I could talk to about anything I had even the slightest concern about. Our trip was about two months after Cyclone Ditwah had passed, but each time we spoke, they explained in detail the latest information on sightseeing spots that was changing day by day, which was very helpful in planning and rebuilding.

Since we were limited to 3 people, we considered a small car, but if we were going to be traveling with a lot of luggage for a long time, we decided on a VAN type, which turned out to be a great decision. Even with three extra-large suitcases on board and the extra souvenirs from the sub-bags on the seats, all three of us could still sit comfortably.It was a much larger car than I had imagined, and I was very satisfied with the overall price difference.

The best thing about using LankaMe was that I was able to have the friendly and bright driver Ranjanna guide me around Sri Lanka. 100 points for his driving skills, from narrow roads to mountain roads, and 120 points for his hospitality, which was responsive to our detailed requests and changes! ! More than that, he always tried to put himself in the same shoes as us, thinking about how to make the trip even better, and he gave us 1000 points for his warm kindness and repeated jeep rides from the perspective of local, unexplored areas. This trip made me realize that Ranjana is a truly professional guide and driver. I had gathered information about Sri Lanka in advance, but there was a lot of information that only locals would know, such as where each item was located and where it was cheaper to buy. On that point, Ranjana shared that information and suggested the most suitable travel plans each time. Although it was a long stay for a Japanese person of 7 days, it was a precious vacation for us working adults, so I am truly grateful to Ran-chan for making each day to the fullest. In addition, Ran-chan had lived in Japan, so in addition to being fluent in Japanese, he understood the Japanese Takaya culture (clean toilets, how to use them, etc…) and was very supportive. This was my first time in Sri Lanka, and thanks to Ranjana, it was a very enjoyable trip.

While listening to our preferences and what we wanted to do, they carefully proposed a plan that would allow us to see the highlights based on the plan we had planned in advance. I was so happy that I was able to practice Ayurveda in my free time and go to Nuwara Eliya, which I had given up on due to the cyclone!

For all of our meals, we went to the restaurants recommended by Ran, and all of them were delicious and we were very satisfied!

I wasn’t very good at English, so I was a little nervous about the trip, but thanks to Ranjana’s easy-to-understand explanations of the places we were visiting, Sri Lanka’s history, culture, and relationship with Japan, I was able to spend my days at ease. It was very reassuring to know that they always greeted us cheerfully and with a smile, and were patient with us and adjusted to our pace. Additionally, they allowed us to experience Sri Lankan traditions and customs first-hand, which made our trip even more memorable.

I will also never forget how they were especially concerned about Anote’s hydration, and how they tried so hard to keep up with Anote no matter how fast she ran.

From October 14 to 18, we took a five-day trip to Sri Lanka as a couple. We used the standard plan with an English-speaking driver and were greatly looked after by Indika.

Negombo → 2) Sigiriya → 3) Kandy → 4) Nuwara Eliya → 5) Mirissa / Colombo

What moved us first was that the very first day happened to be my birthday, and a cake appeared during breakfast! While we were still delighted, we learned that Indika had contacted the hotel and arranged the surprise. He even gave me a cute elephant figurine—my heart was full.

We also had the chance to meet Indika’s family and were treated to his wife’s home cooking (the best meal we had in Sri Lanka!).

Throughout the trip he was a truly dependable presence:

We’d once been overcharged while traveling in another country, so we were a bit wary at first. But Indika always stayed calm and would say, “If it feels overpriced, let’s skip it.” When something seemed above the going rate or when a different place would be a better fit, he told us so—his sincerity made him someone we could truly trust.

Thanks to Indika, our trip became not just sightseeing but a richly memorable, colorful journey. Meeting him was part of what made it perfect. When we visit Sri Lanka again, we definitely want to request Indika.

For our honeymoon, they arranged for Ranjana, who is very popular, and I was very happy with her consideration.

Mr. Ranjana is the most popular person, and he was punctual in every step of the process, and was very accommodating even in unexpected situations such as the weather. I was also happy to see the kind consideration given to me, such as buying mangoes and cards while I was on the move.

I wanted to eat this kind of curry, I wanted to go to Ayurveda on this particular day, etc., and they were very attentive to my requests by calling the location.

We travelled to Sri Lanka right after a cyclone and had to make major changes to our itinerary, but thanks to Chamil it still turned into an amazing trip.
Because it was a three-generation family holiday, it was incredibly reassuring that he came with us for activities like climbing Sigiriya Rock and going on safari. When the schedule changes meant cancelling our original hotels and train tickets and booking new accommodation, he was always there to help, and we are truly grateful for that support.

He constantly gathered up-to-date information from various sources about road conditions and safety, and suggested the best possible routes at each moment. Those suggestions always reflected a real understanding of our preferences, so every single day was a lot of fun.

For meals as well, he took us to restaurants that only locals would usually know about (exactly the kind of experience we were hoping for), and we were thrilled. Every place he chose was delicious – it felt like one pleasant surprise after another.

He was always kind to our child, attentive when they weren’t feeling well or were sleepy, and we appreciated that so much. When our child was too tired to visit a temple, we felt completely at ease leaving them in Chamil’s care.

He is quick-thinking and endlessly considerate, and because all of that comes so naturally to him, both the adults and the children in our group ended up falling in love with Chamil and with Sri Lanka. The next time we visit Sri Lanka, we definitely want to ask for Chamil again.

Thank you very much for always thinking about us and taking action during the 9 days. It was a fun trip as we learned about Sri Lanka’s history, scenic spots, and various other attractions.

There is nothing that I would like to see improved, and if I were to travel to Sri Lanka next time, I would choose Sheeran. It was the best honeymoon that I will never forget!

We travelled from Negombo through Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo with Priyanta over six days. He was punctual, safe and constantly attentive—friendly even on long drives.
He took us to places outside the initial plan and knew excellent restaurants. He even reordered visits to make the days smoother. When our daughter’s glasses broke, he helped arrange repairs—service far beyond driver/guide duties. We recommend him.
