Sri Lanka trekking adds a different side to a holiday of ancient sites and beaches. Walk towards the pilgrimage summit of Adam’s Peak, look across the highland valleys from Ella Rock, or spend a day among the forests and ridges of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Each area offers its own landscape and atmosphere.
LankaMe can arrange trekking tours with local guides in all three areas. Whether you want to add a mountain walk to a round trip or explore unfamiliar trails with someone who knows the way, tell us your dates and group size. This guide introduces the locations, highlights, available plans and total group prices.
Your local trekking guide
Our guides speak a little English. Please expect simple communication rather than fluent conversation or detailed commentary. They are experienced trekking professionals who know the local routes: their priority is to guide you to your destination and lead you safely back to the starting point. Share any important requests with LankaMe before the trek.

Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada): a sacred mountain with far-reaching views

Where is Adam’s Peak, and why is it famous?
Adam’s Peak, also known as Sri Pada, rises to 2,243 metres in Sri Lanka’s south-central highlands. A familiar approach runs via Hatton to the trailhead at Nallathanniya, also called Dalhousie. This is a different mountain from Little Adam’s Peak near Ella, so make sure you specify the correct destination when arranging your walk.
The mountain is revered for the sacred footprint near its summit. Different religious traditions associate it with the Buddha, Shiva or Adam. Walking here offers a chance to encounter Sri Lanka’s pilgrimage culture as well as enjoy the mountain scenery.

A climb timed for sunrise is a memorable way to experience the mountain. As the sky brightens, the surrounding ridges gradually come into view. The main pilgrimage season is generally around December to May; we confirm the available plan and starting time for your travel dates. The ascent and descent include many steps, so allow enough time and energy for the return walk.
Arrange an Adam’s Peak trek with LankaMe
LankaMe can arrange a local guide for a trek lasting around seven hours. A typical sunrise plan starts walking at about 2:00 am, reaches the summit at around 5:30 am, and returns at about 9:00 am. These times are a guide, and the actual schedule depends on your pace and conditions. Your guide accompanies you to the destination and back to the starting point.

| Group size | Approximate duration | Total group price |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 people, including adults and children | Around 7 hours | US$80 |
This is the total for one group of up to ten people, rather than a price per person. Let us know where you are staying and your plans before and after the trek so we can confirm the meeting point, start time and arrangements for reaching the trailhead.
Ella Rock: views across highland valleys and tea country

Where is Ella Rock, and what can you see?
Ella Rock is a viewpoint near the highland town of Ella, towards the southeast of Sri Lanka. Tea country, wooded slopes and green hills give the area a different feel from the coastal lowlands. A guided walk fits naturally into an itinerary that includes a night or two in Ella.
The reward is the view across the valley and surrounding mountains. After walking through wooded stretches, you reach open viewpoints overlooking the green slopes and the town below. Take time to enjoy the scenery and photographs rather than treating the summit as a quick stop.

Ella Rock trekking with tuk-tuk transport
LankaMe can arrange a plan that takes you part of the way by tuk-tuk, followed by trekking with a local guide. Tuk-tuk transport is included in the prices below. Your guide communicates in simple English and uses their route knowledge to lead you to the viewpoint and back.

| Group size | Approximate trekking time | Total group price |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2 people | Around 4 hours | US$70 |
| Up to 4 people | Around 4 hours | US$90 |
| Up to 6 people | Around 6 hours | US$120 |
You might begin the day with a walk and leave the afternoon for the town, depending on your overall itinerary. Tell us in advance if you are concerned about walking distance or fitness, along with the number of people in your group, so we can discuss the plan.
Knuckles Mountain Range: a day of forest and mountain trails

Why is the Knuckles Mountain Range famous?
The Knuckles Mountain Range is a mountainous area northeast of Kandy. The name refers to a landscape of peaks, valleys and forest rather than one isolated summit. It suits travellers who want to spend time in Sri Lanka’s natural surroundings beyond the towns and cultural sights.
The Knuckles Conservation Forest forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage property Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. Its mountain forests are recognised for their biodiversity. Layered ridgelines, different shades of green and clouds moving across the hills make the landscape rewarding to explore on foot.

Walking through the forests and along mountain trails brings you closer to the landscape than a distant viewpoint alone. The plan below covers around 16 km and is a good choice if you want to set aside a full day for trekking. We confirm the route and viewpoints when arranging the trip. The photographs introduce the mountain area; they do not mean that every pictured location is included in the route.
Knuckles trekking with lunch and tuk-tuk transport
LankaMe can arrange a guided trek of approximately 16 km over around six hours. The table shows the total group price, including lunch and tuk-tuk transport. Your local trekking guide knows the route and accompanies you throughout the outward and return walk.

| 4 people | Around 6 hours / 16 km | US$260 |
Prices and guiding: what to know before booking
All prices are in US dollars and are the total for one group in the stated size category, not a per-person price. These are the overseas customer rates. Prices may change with exchange rates or local conditions; we confirm the final amount when you book. Payment can also be arranged in GBP, EUR or AUD. Please confirm the amount and currency with LankaMe.
Expect an experienced trekking guide with basic English, rather than a fluent English-speaking tour commentator. Their strength is knowing the trails and looking after the walk: they lead you to the destination and guide you safely back to the departure point. Please send any important questions or requirements to LankaMe in advance so we can explain them before the trek.
Clothing and equipment for your trek
- Comfortable shoes with good grip: choose footwear suitable for mountain paths and wet steps.
- Rain protection and an extra layer: prepare for changing highland weather and cool early starts.
- Drinking water and sun protection: bring enough for the planned walk, plus a hat and appropriate protection from the sun.
- A light for walks before dawn: check the equipment needed if you plan to climb Adam’s Peak for sunrise.
Agree on a comfortable pace with your guide and keep the walk within your ability. Weather and departure time can affect the itinerary. You can also ask about getting from your accommodation to the meeting point or joining with a group size that is not listed.
